If that doesn’t bother you and you decide to book for Alaska, be sure to reserve your preferred dining venues and ship activities as early as possible, because everything fills up fast. Anyway, the cruise I’m reporting on here was my second on the Bliss to Alaska, but was significant in that it was the very first Alaska cruise across all lines and ships of the 2024 season. It was also my first time cruising solo on the Bliss (last time I had my son with me). I’ll be providing a detailed trip report from each day as well as highlighting some features I loved about the Bliss (and a few I didn’t) and some tips for those booked on or considering her.

I stayed in a $2,554 studio cabin on NCL Epic, and it was one of the best sailing experiences I ever had

Now, it’s time to set sail on your own Alaskan cruise adventure with Norwegian Cruise Line and explore the beauty and wonders of Juneau, Alaska. Explore the numerous art galleries showcasing works by local artists, including paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and more. You may even have the chance to meet the artists themselves and gain insights into their creative process.

There are two comedians featured here with several showings throughout the week. Normally a crew area, the ship’s helipad was open today for guests to marvel at these glaciers. We started our day here, accessing it through a hallway on Deck 8 near the District Brewhouse. Honestly, we weren’t all that impressed with the view from here, especially being short like me. During a cruise through Glacier Bay, there is the opportunity to typically see 5 glaciers depending on the weather.

Located on the Gastineau Channel, Juneau is only accessible by boat or plane, making it an exclusive destination for cruise ship passengers. So, hop on board as we embark on a virtual journey through the breathtaking city of Juneau, Alaska, and discover the best docking locations for Norwegian Cruise Line passengers. A quick lumberjack photo later, we immediately took the quick walk back to our bus which got us back to Ward Cove around 1 PM. This is one of the benefits of booking shore excursions with the cruise line. Wanting to see what the view was like from our balcony, we then hurried our way up to our cabin in time to catch the view on the starboard side.

Extensive refurbishments to modernize the ship has given it fresh appeal, which adults will love. The cruise ship is known for its great good, atmosphere and helpful staff. As an older ship, there are some excellent cruise fares, starting as low as $400 per person for week-long sailings.

I last visited here in late October on the very last cruise of the 2023 season. A popular tour destination on cruise itineraries, Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve wows with its icy wilderness and grand glaciers in southeastern Alaska. Glaciers of note include the park's largest tidewater glacier, John Hopkins; the elongated 21-mile Margerie; and the rapidly receding Muir. The park also is home to an amazing world of marine life, including humpback whales, sea otters, giant Pacific octopuses and harbor porpoises.

Norwegian Cruise Lines are bringing an even higher standard of excellence to dining with upgraded menus and new exciting venues. Norwegian Cruise Line knows the destinations you'll be visiting and what there is to see, do and experience. They offer a variety of excursions to choose from, in every port you'll visit. View our photo gallery of Alaska cruising photos from Norwegian Cruise Line. Keep in mind, this is just a sample of the sights waiting for you on a Norwegian Cruise Line Alaska cruise vacation. Venture into the wilderness with Norwegian and have more variety than any other cruise line!

Embark on a thrilling excursion to witness humpback whales breaching and feeding in the nutrient-rich waters of the Inside Passage. These majestic creatures never fail to awe and inspire passengers with their graceful movements. At the Mount Roberts Tramway Dock, thrill-seekers and nature enthusiasts can ascend to the summit of Mount Roberts via the tramway. Take in panoramic views of Juneau and the surrounding landscapes, hike the scenic trails, and keep an eye out for wildlife along the way.

The one noticeable difference is that Kinky Boots is no longer a main theater production show, which is a bit of a disappointment as it was great. In addition, the captain opens up the bow of the ship on Deck 8 for this day only, and passengers can enjoy coffee, tea, and hot chocolate while viewing Glacier Bay outdoors. National Park rangers come aboard the ship and narrate about the glaciers and wildlife you see, as well as share stories about the park’s history. Recommendations if touring downtown include Red Onion Saloon, Klondike Doughboy, Skagway Brewing Co., and Alaska Christmas Store. We needed our passports on this day’s excursion as our tour entered Canada. Recommendations if touring downtown include Red Dog Saloon and Tracy’s King Crab Shack.

This is pretty much as dressed up as we get with rain boots mandatory from about October through May (hat is optional, but I hate being cold and this is Alaska in April, so I figure better safe). A short walk from the dock will lead you to the historic Red Dog Saloon, a quintessential Alaskan establishment that has been a popular gathering place since the gold rush era. Step back in time as you enter this rustic saloon, adorned with sawdust on the floor, mounted animal heads on the walls, and a lively atmosphere that is sure to transport you to another era. For those seeking a more spiritual experience, the summit of Mount Roberts is also home to a peaceful sanctuary known as the Raven Eagle Gifts & Gallery.

While our meal was good, Le Bistro is probably our least favorite restaurant on the ship. Explore more on your Alaska cruise by both land and sea in one seamless Alaska trip; plan an authentic vacation that goes beyond the expected. Witness nature at its most enticing with glacier-fed lakes and inspiring mountains.
